What’s wall text?

Wall text is the written information accompanying an exhibition or a piece of art in a museum, a gallery, or wherever it’s installed. Wall text is usually brief—a few paragraphs explaining what you’re looking at and why it’s important. People are often desperate for some wall text, or they don’t stop to read it at all. (I admit it: I love this stuff.) This newsletter offers my take on “wall text”—observations and anecdotes, histories and love notes—in response to art in LA and elsewhere.

Wall Text is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
